An important capital Campaign in support of two century-old hospitals!

OUR PRIORITY : THE INTEGRATED RENAL CARE CENTRE

We invite you to watch this moving video featuring Mr. Harry Daghlian, a patient who has spent countless hours undergoing dialysis; Dr. Rioux, Head of the Division of Nephrology; and Mr. Mathieu Laliberté, a nurse, as they share why a new dialysis centre is urgently needed and essential for patient care. Please take note that the video is in french only.

Each week, hundreds of patients come through the doors of Sacré-Cœur Hospital for hemodialysis treatments. For them, dialysis isn’t optional — it’s lifesaving. It enables them to keep living their lives, even though their kidneys can no longer function on their own. However, dialysis comes at a cost. Patients must spend hours at a time, several days a week, hooked up to a machine and confined to an often uncomfortable stretcher.

The place where they receive this treatment is far more than just another hospital unit. For many patients, it becomes part of their daily reality — almost a second home. They deserve a space that preserves their dignity and responds to their needs for comfort, safety, and privacy. A modern dialysis unit where healthcare teams have the room and the right equipment to deliver the highest quality care to Mr. Daghlian and to every patient who relies on this essential treatment.

A passionate and dedicated ambassador!

“I chose to become an ambassador for the capital campaign because I truly believe Sacré-Cœur embodies what a university teaching hospital should be — comprehensive, specialized, and academically driven. It plays a vital role in keeping our healthcare system balanced, serving not only Montreal but all of Quebec.

People have, right in their community, a century-old institution with a proud legacy of compassionate, attentive care. At the same time, it is a leading-edge academic hospital serving a region where nearly 25% of Quebec’s population resides. More people need to know this.

At Sacré-Cœur, there are experts in every field and specialty. When you speak with them, you quickly see the depth of their ambition — for the hospital and for the level of care they want to provide to patients. When you truly listen to them, you immediately understand why supporting this campaign matters.”

The Montreal Sacré-Cœur Hospital and the Albert-Prévost Mental Health Hospital are century-old institutions, deeply rooted in their communities.

Their teams perform miracles everyday. They welcome patients with compassion, support them through the challenges of illness, and provide care marked by kindness. Driven by ambitious goals, they innovate to improve treatments and save lives — benefiting both current and future generations.

The Sacré-Cœur Hospital

The Montreal Sacré-Cœur hospital is celebrating 100 years in 2026. Nearly 2 million people, or 25% of Quebec’s population, are likely to be treated there due to the expertise developed in different medical fields.

As a leading university hospital, it has been affiliated with the Université de Montréal for more than 50 years, and is grounded in three essential pillars: medical and health sciences education, research, and cutting-edge clinical care.

The Albert-Prévost Hospital

Long known as the Pavillon Albert-Prévost, or “PAP,” as it is affectionately called, it is now the Albert-Prévost Mental Health Hospital. It celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2019. This institution has left a lasting mark on Quebec’s history, with leading specialties such as child and adolescent psychiatry and geriatric psychiatry. Its influence stems as much from the education it provides as from the care it delivers to patients.

Together, these two hospitals serve a growing and aging population with increasing healthcare needs. To continue delivering the exceptional care they are known for, they must evolve and modernize.

LET’S CHANGE LIVES TOGETHER

This major fundraising campaign seeks to raise $45 million to bring to life priority projects that will have an immediate impact on the daily lives of thousands of patients and the dedicated healthcare teams who care for them. Sacré-Cœur and Albert-Prévost need the support of generous donors to equip their hospitals with the latest medical technologies and modern facilities — ensuring patients benefit from the most advanced care while the hospitals continue advancing on the path of excellence.

Here are the six priority projects chosen for their meaningful impact on patients’ lives:

  • Spinal Cord Injury Unit
  • Cancer Care Centre
  • Mental Health Care Centre
  • Centre de soins en santé mentale
  • Outpatient Clinics
  • Artificial Intelligence and Research

This campaign will bring vital, long-term changes to the hospital — improvements that will benefit everyone who works here and every patient who receives care.

Join us in this great journey of transformation.

I WANT TO GIVE

The impact of your donation

Thanks to the generosity of supporters like you, these six projects will become a reality — transforming the daily lives of patients, empowering healthcare teams, and advancing the work of researchers. One of these initiatives, the modernization of the Spinal Cord Injury Unit, has already been completed, showing just how powerful your support can be.

A Campaign Success: Better Care for Spinal Cord Injury Patients at Sacré-Cœur

Since its full renovation in 2023, the Spinal Cord Injury Unit is equipped with better-suited facilities, creating an environment that is both more functional for healthcare staff and more comfortable for patients.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the $1.1  million renovation of the Spinal Cord Injury Unit brought significant improvements:

  • Renovated nurses’ stations
  • Upgraded ventilation
  • Ceiling-mounted patient lifts in every room
  • Rehabilitation satellite close to patient rooms
  • New air conditioning for increased comfort and reduced complications

Caring for Spinal Cord Injury Patients

The Spinal Cord Injury Unit treats patients who have sustained spinal cord injuries. These injuries can result in paraplegia, tetraplegia, or quadriplegia, leaving patients with limited mobility and increased vulnerability. They rely on the highly specialized care provided at Sacré-Cœur.

Thanks to donors to the capital campaign, these patients now benefit from a better-adapted environment. For individuals whose lives have been deeply affected by an accident, this upgraded environment offers the supportive, engaging care they need to regain independence as fully and quickly as possible.
