Joseph Nguyen knew to combine business with pleasure!

A young master's student in management - financial engineering at HEC Montréal, Joseph Nguyen, chose to use one of his passions, online video games, to support the Sacré-Cœur care teams. Thanks to the contributions of his family and friends, he managed to raise $1,500 in 14 hours by taking up challenges on the platform, which continuously streams video games.

This virtual event was held on May 1st. “People around me donated an amount for each challenge or goal achieved in the video game via a link that pointed to CANADAHELPS. The age group of the streaming participants was 20 to 25 years old. However, the donors are between 18 and 40 years old, ”said Joseph.

Why did you choose to give to Sacré-Coeur? It’s Joseph’s local hospital. He was treated there for a bicycle accident and several people around him receive treatment there. "The pandemic motivated me to help Montreal Sacré-Cœur Hospital, which has been designated to receive patients with COVID-19 in adults. Since I have no medical knowledge, but really wanted to give back to my neighborhood hospital, I had the idea of creating an attractive event for my friends who were also participants in the game. I had a presenting sponsor, a real estate agent (Kevin Nguyen), who donated $500 to start my fundraising. ”

A rewarding experience

For Joseph Nguyen, who was in his first fundraising campaign, the experience was very rewarding. Some of his family members chatted live with him on the platform to encourage him. "This is the first time I have done a fundraiser and I am very satisfied with the result." Thank you, Joseph, for this great initiative. What a great way to use a hobby and turn it into useful work in these times of pandemic!
